The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia would map the dataset to try and identify hot spots of bike thefts.
Bike theft is a deterrent to people who want to use their bicycle around town either for commuting or short trips. Having a bike stolen is discouraging and frustrating because reports made to the Police are perceived to go unnoticed and bikes are very difficult to recover. We think better knowledge of where hot spots of thefts are occurring would help inform how to design an enforcement campaign. A demonstration of enforcement action taken by the PPD and DA's Office would help residents believe that it is safer to park a bike in Philadelphia because bike thieves are being targeted.
